At Thomas, we strive to help our students become strong academic learners by creating a safe, respectful, responsible, and ready-to-learn school culture. We believe in our students and their ability to express themselves academically and socially through values embedded in lifelong learning, collaboration, character, and leadership. Respect: The 4th R. The following is an excerpt from Middle Years: "Working Together for School Success.”
- Treating people with respect can help your student form strong relationships with classmates, teachers, and family members.
- Look for examples: Point out respectful behavior to your child, such as knocking on a closed door or being quiet while others are speaking or performing. Likewise, let your child know what disrespectful behavior looks like. After a concert, you might say, “It was not nice when the people behind us were whispering. That was disruptive to the musicians—and the audience.”
- Set limits: Make it clear that disrespectful language is never allowed. If your student loses their cool and behaves rudely, suggest that they take a break. Tell them you’ll listen when they calm down. Letting your student know that you won’t tolerate disrespect provides the guidance they need to change their behavior.

April is designated as the Month of the Military Child. We appreciate our Thomas military families and students for the sacrifices and challenges they overcome. CPSD is recognizing and celebrating Purple Up day on April 15th.
Spring sports: Baseball, Track and Field, Girls Volleyball, Tennis
8th Grade visit to high schools: April 11th 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Thomas PTSA:
- April 12th is Popcorn Friday during lunches.
- Family Movie Night: Friday, April 12th from 6 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
- PTSA monthly meeting is Monday, April 15th at 5:30 p.m.
Parents vs. Teachers basketball game:
Game is Thursday, April 18th from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the gymnasium.
Star Assessments: This is the 3rd time students will take this assessment; fall, winter, and now spring. Star measures student growth in the academic content being assessed.
- April 16th: Language Arts
- April 23rd: Math
April 26th: Admin Coffee and Conversation at 9:15 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. We will meet in the library.
Smarter Balanced and Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science Tests: These state assessments will be for content areas English Language Arts and Mathematics.
May 13th - 14th: English Language Arts. Grades 6-8.
May 16th – 17th: Mathematics. Grades 6-8.
May 20th: Science. Grade 8 only.
May 15th: District Parent Connections Council Meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the district office.
Parents, support your student academic success by establishing daily reading time. Research supports that consistent daily reading advances student achievement in all content areas.
4 Pillar Teaching: April’s character word is “Cooperation”. As a family, discuss how “Cooperation” can fit into life-long learning, collaboration, character, and leadership. The idea of working together to make something better is a good starting point for discussion.
